OPEN CAPTIONED MOVIES
Downtown Cinemas presents OPEN CAPTIONED MOVIES, sessions that provide an environment in which people who are Deaf, Hearing Impaired or Learning English can enjoy a movie with friends and family. We maintain some subdued lighting in the cinema so that you can enjoy the movie in a relaxed comfortable atmosphere.

What is an open captioned film?
When people talk or when sounds are shown in a movie, this is changed into words and displayed on the screen with captions.
They look similar to subtitles on foreign language films. The captioned films are shown with a normal film projector in a cinema. The audience sees the captions.
Who can watch open captioned films?
Anyone can watch and enjoy captioned films! But there are groups of people who will particularly benefit from captions. They may now enjoy captioned movies with their friends and family.
- Deaf People
People who are Deaf rely on captions to follow the soundtrack and special effects on films and television.
- Hearing Impaired People
People who have gradual hearing loss use captions to help them understand the soundtrack.
- People Learning English
Language schools can use captioned films to help teach people spoken English. It is easier to follow a soundtrack while reading the captions and listening to the pronunciation of words.
